In Darlinghurst, the Crown Street terrace had seen better days, with its rich history hidden beneath years of neglect. For Mia Lake Interiors and Yannec Construction, this was more than just a renovation project - it was a chance to blend the past with the present, breathing new life into a heritage home while respecting its character.
The brief was to modernise the terrace for a developer without stripping away its timeless charm. For Mia Lake and her team, this meant carefully balancing traditional and contemporary elements to create a home that felt both sophisticated and approachable.

Honouring the Heritage
Stepping into the terrace, it was clear that the original details were worth preserving. Classic features like detailed joinery and period-style tiling set the tone, providing a foundation for the design concept. “We wanted to maintain the character that makes these terraces so special,” Mia shares, “while introducing modern elements that make the space feel fresh and functional.”
The bathrooms became key focal points in the design. Each space was thoughtfully crafted to reflect the balance of tradition and modernity that defined the overall project.
Powder Room: Drama Meets Elegance
The powder room offers a bold, yet refined statement. Anchored by Nood Co’s Hoop Basin Cylinder in Blush Pink, the space exudes warmth and elegance. Deep green Spanish subway tiles climb the walls, capped with a marble trim that feels both traditional and unexpected. Venetian plaster details add texture, while a glass wall sconce provides a soft, ambient glow.
This room is a testament to the idea that even the smallest spaces can make a lasting impression.

Main Bathroom: Timeless Harmony
The main bathroom strikes a perfect balance between functionality and style. A wall-to-wall timber veneer vanity, topped with stone and paired with a matching backsplash, creates a seamless and grounded look. Sitting atop the vanity are Nood Co’s Bowl Basins in Blush Pink, which introduce a subtle pop of colour.
Handmade green subway tiles add texture and depth, while the stone detailing ties the space to the design language seen throughout the home. “This bathroom was designed to feel timeless, yet distinctly personal,” Mia explains.

Ensuite: Continuity and Simplicity
The ensuite mirrors the main bathroom’s palette, but on a more intimate scale. The same timber veneer vanity, this time in a smaller wall-to-wall version, continues the cohesive design. The subway tiles, now in white, brighten the space, while the stone details provide a sense of luxury and continuity.
Here, Nood Co’s Bowl Basin in Blush Pink once again takes centre stage, proving that simplicity can be just as impactful as bold design.

A New Chapter for Crown Street
Completed late last year, the Crown Street terrace found its new owner almost immediately - a testament to the care and vision poured into the project by Mia Lake Interiors and Yannec Construction.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to restore homes like this,” Mia reflects. “This project was about more than just creating beautiful spaces; it was about giving this terrace a new story while honouring its past.”
The final result is a home that seamlessly blends heritage charm with contemporary elegance, serving as a perfect example of thoughtful design and craftsmanship. For Mia and her team, this project was a reminder of the beauty in balance - and the joy of bringing new life to old walls.
